Two plays by two playwrights, Reko Lundán and Laura Ruohonen, have been published by Lasipalatsi of Helsinki in translations by David Hackston. They are Teillä ei ollut nimiä (‘You had no names’) and Kuningatar K. (‘Queen K’), published under the titles Can you hear the howling? and Queen C.

Estonian
A collection of science-fiction short stories by Pasi Jääskeläinen, Missä junat kääntyvät (‘Where the trains turn back’, The Science Fiction Association of Tampere) has been published by Skarabeus of Saue. The title is Taevast kukkunud loomaaed and the translator is Arvi Nikkarev.

French
A collection of poetry by Bo Carpelan, Källan (‘Source’, Bonniers, Schildts), has been translated by Pierre Grouix and Gunilla von Malmborg. The title is La Source and the publisher is Rafael de Surtis Éditions of Cherves.

German
Pentti Holappa’s Finlandia Prize-winning novel of 1998, Ystävän muotokuva (‘Portrait of a friend’, WSOY), has been translated by Stefan Moster as Porträt eines Freundes. The publisher is Hainholz Verlag of Göttingen.
     A book about the history of the Finnish Civil War (1918–19) by Professor Heikki Ylikangas, Tie Tampereelle (‘The road to Tampere’, WSOY), has been published by Berlin Verlag of Berlin. The title is Der Weg nach Tampere; and the translator is Gabriele Schrey-Vasara.
     Schrey-Vasara is also the translator of a crime novel by Leena Lehtolainen, Ensimmäinen murhani (‘My first murder’, Tammi), published by Rowohlt Taschenbuch Verlag of Hamburg under the title Alle singen im Chor.
     Another crime novel, Raid ja mustempi lammas (‘Raid and a blacker sheep’, WSOY) by Harri Nykänen, has been published by Grafit of Dortmund as Schwärtzer als ein schwartzes Schaf. The translator is Regine Pirschel.
     Suomen kirkkohistoria (‘An ecclesiastical history of Finland’, Edita) by Simo Heininen ja Markku Heikkilä, has been published by Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht of Göttingen. The title is Kirchengeschichte Finnlands; the translator is Matthias Quaschning-Kirsch.
