     The novel Benjamins bok (‘Benjamin’s book’, Söderströms) by Bo Carpelan has been published as Dnevikat na Benjamin. The publisher is Hemus of Sofia, the translator Anton Stoinev.

Naklada Szabó A3 data of Zagreb has published an abridged prose version of the Kalevala, with an introduction and a glossary by Stjepan A. Szabó, and illustrations by Ivica Atolicic.

The novel Iloisen kotiinpaluun asuinsijat (‘The dwellings of a happy homecoming’, WSOY) by Leena Lander has been published by Wereldebibliotheek of Amsterdam. The title is De thuiskomst and the translator is Marja-Leena Hellings.

English
A collection of poetry by Heidi Liehu, entitled Pitkät hyvästit (WSOY) has been published under the title Long goodbyes by Penumbra Press of Manotick (US). The translator is Kathleen Osgood Dana.
     A selection of poems by Kirsti Simonsuuri has been published by Xlibris of Philadelphia. The translator is Jascha Kessler and the title is Traveling Light. Selected poems of Kirsti Simonsuuri.
     A new translation of Tove Jansson’s picture book for children, Hur gick det sen? (‘Then what happened?’, Schildts) has been published by Sort Of Books of London. The new, rhyming English version is by the poet Sophie Hannah, from a translation by Silvester Mazzarella. The title is The Book about Moomin, Mymble and Little My.
     The first part of Väinö Linna’s classic trilogy about the Finnish civil war of 1918, Täällä Pohjantähden alla (1959–62), has been translated by Richard Impola and published by Aspasia Books of Beaverton (Canada). The title is Under the North Star.

French
Arto Paasilinna’s comic novel Suloinen myrkynkeittäjä (‘The sweet poison-maker’, WSOY) has been translated by Anne Colin du Terrail; the publisher is Denoël of Paris and the title La douce Empoisonneuse.
     The Finlandia Prize-winning novel by Pentti Holappa, Ystävän muotokuva (‘Portrait of a friend’, WSOY, 1998) has been published by Riveneuve of Marseille. The title is Portrait d’un ami and the translators are Léa de Chalvron and Gabriel Rebourcet.
     A play by Pasi Lampela, Markiisin unet (‘The dreams of the marquis’) has been published by the Finnish Theatre Information Centre. The publisher is René-Philippe Thomas and the title is Les Rêves du Marquis de Sade.

German
The novel Syyspastoraali (‘Autumn pastorale’, WSOY) by Leena Lander has been translated by Angela Plöger. The publisher is Goldmann of Munich and the title is Das Gut in den Wäldern.
     The Moomin book Trollkarlens hatt (Finn Family Moomintroll, Schildts; Puffin Books/Penguin Group) by Tove Jansson has been published under the title Eine drollige Gesellschaft by Arena Verlag of Würtzburg. The translator is Birgitta Kicherer.
     A selection of poems by Mirkka Rekola has been translated by Stefan Moster. The title is Himmel aus blauem Feuer and the publisher is WSOY of Helsinki.
     Stefan Moster is also the translator of the novel Sydänkohtauksia (‘Heart attacks’, WSOY) by Kari Hotakainen: the title is Lieblingszenen and the publisher is Fischer of Frankfurt am Main.
     Goldmann of Munich has published Moster’s translation of the detective novel Harjunpää ja rakkauden lait (‘Harjunpää and the laws of love’, Otava) by Matti Yrjänä Joensuu; the title is Der einsame Mörder.
     The novel Ihon aika (‘The time of the skin’, WSOY) by Anja Snellman (formerly Kauranen) has also been published by Goldmann of Munich. The title is Zeit der Haut.
     A thriller by Outi Pakkanen, Macbeth on kuollut (‘Macbeth is dead’, Otava) has been published under the title Macbeth ist tot; the translator is Regine Pirschel and the publisher Grafit Verlag of Dortmund.

Hungarian
A play based on the novel Vierashuone (‘Guest room’, WSOY) by Jari Ehrnrooth, dramatised by Johanna Enckell and called Minua ette saa (‘You won’t catch me’) has been published by Polar Alapitvány of Budapest. The translator is Makra Hajnalka and the title is Engem nem kaptok meg. Monológ pszichoanalizis után.

Italian
The comic novel Elämä lyhyt, Rytkönen pitkä (‘Life short, Rytkönen long’, WSOY) by Arto Paasilinna has been translated by Helinä Kangas and Antonio Maiorca. The title is Lo smemorato di Tapiola, and the publisher is Iperborea of Milan.

Latvian
A selection of short stories by Rosa Liksom has been published by Atena of Riga. The title is Vienas nakts ekstaze; the translator is Maima Grinberga.

Norwegian
The novel Hänen olivat linnut (‘His were the birds’, Otava) by Marja-Liisa Vartio has been translated by Nøste Kendzior. The title is Fuglene var hans, the publisher is Bokvennen of Oslo.

Spanish
A selection of prose poems by Gösta Ågren, Timmermannen (‘The carpenter’, Söderströms) has been published by Nide de Cuervos of Lima. The title is El Carpintero and the translator is Renato Sandoval.

Swedish
A novel by Anja Snellman (formerly Kauranen), Paratiisin kartta (‘The map of paradise’, Otava) has been published by Norstedts of Stockholm. The translator is Camilla Frostell and the title is Paradisets karta.
     A book for young people by Marja-Leena Tiainen, Rakas Mikael (‘Dear Mikael’, Tammi) has been translated under the title Älskade Mikael. The translator is Janina Orlov and the publisher is Rabén & Sjögren of Stockholm.
     The first part of the memoirs of the Finnish diplomat and historian, Max Jakobson, Väkivallan vuodet. Erään vuosisadan tilinpäätös (‘Years of violence. Balance sheet of a century’, Otava) has been translated by Ulf-Erik Slotte; the title is Våldets århundrade. The publishers are Atlantis/Söderströms of Helsinki.

Udmurt
