Matka Aasian halki: Päiväkirja matkalta Kaspianmeri—Peking ('A journey across Asia: diary of a journey from the Caspian Sea to Beijing', Suomen Kirja), the journals of the Finnish president (1944—46) and Marshal C.G. Mannerheim from his 1906 Asian travels have been translated into Chinese by Wang Jiaji. The publisher is China National Photography and Art Press of Beijing.

Danish
Riina Katajavuori's book for children, Pentti Kanariansaarilla ('Pentti in the Canary Islands', Tammi), the second book in an illustrated series, has appeared in a Danish translation by Helena Idström entitled På sviptur til Lanzarote. The publisher is Carlsen of Copenhagen.

Dutch
The novel Juoksuhaudantie ('The Trench Road', WSOY) by Kari Hotakainen has appeared in a Dutch translation by Anton Havelaar and Lili Ahonen under the title De Huisman. Juoksuhaudantie, which won the Finlandia Literature Prize in 2002, has been translated into twelve languages. The Dutch publisher is Rode Kamer of Haarlem.

English
Janne Seppänen's textbook Katseen voima (Vastapaino) has been translated into English by Aijaleena Ahonen and Kris Clarke under the title The Power of the Gaze: An Introduction to Visual Literacy. The publisher is Peter Lang of New York.
     A new anthology of Nordic women writers, Female Voices of the North II, features drama by Minna Canth translated by Eric Schaad, fiction by Tove Jansson and Rosa Liksom, translated by Thomas Teal and Susanna Moliski, and selected poems by Eeva Liisa Manner and Märta Tikkanen, translated by Lola Rogers and Stina Katchadourian. The publisher is Praesens of Vienna.

Estonian
The novel Baby Jane, by Sofi Oksanen (WSOY) has appeared in a new translation by Tiina Pappel, published in Tallinn by Tänapäev.
     Journalist Erkki Toivanen's memoir of his years in London and Paris, Kahden puolen kanaalin ('Two sides of the Channel', Otava) has been translated into Estonian by Piret Saluri and published by Varrak of Tallinn. The title is Kahel pool kanalit.
     Tolppa-apina ('Pole monkey', Diktaattori), a two-part comic novel by Juha Vuorinen, has appeared in a translation by Mihkel Mõisnik under the title Joomahullu päevaraamat.

French
A translation of Markku Paasonen's poetry collection Voittokulku ('Triumphal march', Tammi) by Philippe Jacob, Janne Salo and Kari Uuttu has been published by Rivages du Nord. The title is La Marche triomphale.
     A book of memoirs, Elämäniloa Pariisissa ('Joie de vivre in Paris', WSOY), by professor Tarmo Kunnas, has been translated by Léa de Chalvron and Paul Parent. The publisher is Michèle de Maule, and the title is Heureux comme un Finlandais en France.
     Leena Lander's tenth novel, Käsky ('The order', WSOY) set amid the tragic events of Finland's Civil War of 1918, has been translated into French by Anne Colin du Terrail and published by Actes Sud under the title Obéir.
     Anne Colin du Terrail has also translated Peter von Bagh's thorough and richly illustrated appreciation of the Finnish filmmaker Aki Kaurismäki, published by Cahiers du cinéma of Paris under the title Aki Kaurismäki.
     Elena Balzamo's translation, Déconstructions, from the unfinished novel Sönder ('Broken', Finlands Svenska Litteratursällskap), by the Finland-Swedish writer Henry Parland (1908—1929; see page 267), has been published by Belfond of Paris.

German
The most recent edition of Jahrbuch für finnisch-deutsche Literaturbeziehungen ('Yearbook of Finnish-German literary relationships'), published by Deutsche Bibliothek of Helsinki, focuses on philosophy and includes essays by Georg Henrik von Wright, Henrik Gabriel Porthan, Thiodolf Rein and Edvard Westermarck, translated by Gabriele Schrey-Vasara, and Carola Häntsch's translation of an excerpt from Bo Carpelan's novel Berg (Schildts).
     Matti Yrjänä Joensuu's celebrated 2003 return to his Harjunpää police novel series, Harjunpää ja pahan pappi (Otava; Harjunpää and the Priest of Evil, Arcadia Books, London), has been translated into German by Stefan Moster and published by BtB of Munich under the title Das Taubenritual.
     The screenplay for Aki Kaurismäki's Hamlet liikemaailmassa (Hamlet Goes Business), has been translated by Maria Helena Nyberg and published by Hartmann & Stauffacher. The title is Hamlet Goes Business.
     Pentti Kirstilä's thriller Jäähyväiset presidentille ('Farewell to the President', WSOY) has been published by Grafit of Dortmund in a translation by Gabriele Schrey-Vasara under the title Schwarzer Frühling.
     Grafit has also published Harri Nykänen's novel in the Raid series of thrillers, Raid ja lihava mies ('Raid and the fat man', WSOY), in a translation by Regine Pirschel.
     Another translation by Regine Pirschel is the novel Vieras mies ('The stranger', Otava) by Heidi Köngäs. The book has appeared under the title Der fremde Mann, from Persona publishers of Mannheim.
     Taavi Soininvaara's thriller Ebola (Tammi) has been published by Aufbau of Berlin with the German title Finnisches Blut. The translator is Peter Uhlmann.

Italian
Suomalainen tonttukirja (The Book of Finnish Elves, Otava), an illustrated book for children by Mauri Kunnas, has been translated into Italian by Camilla Storskog. The title is L'antico libro degli gnomi and the publisher is Il gioco di leggere edizioni of Milan.

Japanese
Hiroko Seunobu has translated two books for children and young people, Hannele Huovi's novel Höyhenketju ('Chain of feathers', Tammi), published by Y.A. Books of Tokyo, and Sinikka and Tiina Nopola's Heinähattu ja Vilttitossu rosvojahdissa ('Hayhat and Fluffshoe hunt for robbers', Tammi), published by Kodansha of Tokyo.

Lithuanian
Two books from the series for children by Sinikka and Tiina Nopola, Heinähattu ja Vilttitossu ('Hayhat and Fluff-shoe', Tammi) and Heinähattu, Vilttitossu ja Littoisten riiviö ('Hayhat, Fluffshoe and the rascal from Littoinen', Tammi) have been translated by Viltare Urbaite and published by Nieko Rimto of Vilnius. The titles are Siaudinuke ir Veltinuke and Siadinuke, Veltinuke ir Lituvenu padauza.

Vladimira Smirnova's translation of Daniel Katz's novel Kun isoisä Suomeen hiihti ('When Grandfather skied to Finland', 1969, WSOY) has been published by Tekst of Moscow.
     Mårten Ringbom's work on Finnish history at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, Niccolò och Nikolaj ('Niccolò and Nicholas') has been translated by Katarina Muradyan and published by Skandinavika—M of Moscow.

Spanish
Poliedro of Barcelona has published Ángel y el troll, Bengt Oldenburg's translation of Johanna Sinisalo's novel Ennen päivänlaskua ei voi (Tammi; Not Before Sundown, Peter Owen of London; in the United States, Troll, Grove Press of New York.). The Finlandia Prize winning novel from 2000 has been translated into ten languages.

Swedish
Camilla Frostell's translation of Asko Sahlberg's novel Tammilehto ('The oak grove' WSOY) has been published under the title Eklunden by Norstedts of Stockholm.
     Camilla Frostell's translation of Arto Paasilinna's novel Suomalainen kärsäkirja ('The Finnish trunkbook', WSOY) has been published by Bromberg of Stockholm; the title is Snablar!
     The children's picture book Revontulilumi ('Northern lights snow', Tammi), written by Riitta Jalonen and illustrated by Kristiina Louhi, has been translated by Tapani Ritamäki and published by Söderströms of Helsinki under the title Norrskenssnö.
