Collections and Information Sources

The archives and library at SKS gather documentation on the written and oral cultural heritage of Finland.

The Archives’ collections contain:

  • material on literature and cultural history includes archives of authors and other literary figures from Aleksis Kivi to Riina Katajavuori and from the Torchbearers to the Finnish Writers’ Union; manuscript material, letters, documents, photographs and sound recordings.
  • material on traditional and contemporary culture; from Kalevala poetry to the life stories of rainbow youth – manuscripts, photographs, videos, and sound recordings.

The library's collections contain:

  • Finnish and foreign research literature in the field of cultural studies: folkloristics, cultural anthropology, religious studies, ethnology and ethnomusicology
  • Finnish literature and literary research
  • other humanistic literature.
