Research and publishing

Materials can be quoted and summarised in research in line with the regulations and guidelines of the archives. References to the source must mention the following:

  • The Folklore Archives of the Finnish Literature Society (SKS KRA) and the material’s call number. More detailed guidelines are available on the following page in Finnish: Aineistoihin viittaaminen >>
  • The Literary Archives of the Finnish Literature Society (SKS KIA), the name of the archive and unit and the call number of the material or the archive’s storage unit. Members of staff in the archives can provide further instructions if necessary.

If the archive material contains sensitive or intimate information, consideration should be given to changing or disguising the names and other identifiable information, if the material is to be published. The procedure must be agreed with the archive. Permission must be sought for publishing material other than in research.

Permission is always needed for publishing audio and visual materials in their original state. A user fee is charged for commercial use of the material. The SKS hopes to receive one copy of the publication in which material from the archive has been used.
