Manuscripts

The oldest manuscript held in the Literary Archives dates from the 16th century, though the majority of its material is from the 19th and 20th centuries. There are around a thousand metres of shelf space devoted to manuscripts.
Letters

General Catalogue (in Finnish)

The Archives hold around 1,200 catalogued collections of letters. In total, they contain over 210,000 letters. Letters are catalogued in alphabetical order by writer's name and each writer's letters are organised chronologically.
Photographs

The photograph collection contains over 130,000 photographs and slides. The majority of these photographs are portraits of writers, literary events etc.

There is over 5,500 hours worth of recorded material in the Archives, which has accumulated since the 1950's. Most of these consist of interviews with authors. Seminars and literary events have also been recorded and stored. The Literary Archives also maintain a catalogue of recorded interviews with Finnish authors and literary scholars. This catalogue contains information on around 450 interviewees and on over 800 interviews. The catalogue includes recordings of interviews conducted before October 2002.

The collection of press cuttings (110 metres of shelf space) consists of newspaper articles dating from the mid 19th century to the present day. These cuttings cover a number of subject areas, however the majority of them focus on literature.
