The collections comprise more than 1,800 private archives by Finnish writers, scholars and functionaries of SKS as well as material belonging to other literary societies. The Literary Archives house original manuscripts of many classic Finnish works by writers ranging from Aleksis Kivi to Pentti Saarikoski. Many contemporary writers have also submitted material, including Paavo Haavikko, Pentti Holappa, Anu Kaipainen and Arto Paasilinna.
The manual reference cards and catalogues are an invaluable guide to finding research material in the Literary Archives. This website contains a general catalogue of the most important archive contributors as well as individual catalogues for collections of
- manuscripts,
- letters,
- photographs,
- sound recordings and
- press cuttings.
These online catalogues will help you find out what material, and by whom, is available at the Literary Archives.
A short description of all authors and their archives has been added to the archival database. The Register of Private Archives (YAREK), maintained on the home pages of the National Archives of Finland, provides online access to this information.
