Members are invited to join the Finnish Literature Society. The governing board considers all applications complete. In Juny 2011 the society had 3,107 members.
In addition to normal membership, the Society also has 212 correspondent members. The Society's council invites foreigners who are acquainted with Finland and Finnish culture and who promote the goals of the Society to become correspondent members. SKS also has nine honorary members.
The membership fee for the year 2011 is EUR 35/year; students, postgraduate students, pensioners and the unemployed are charged EUR 20/year.
Member benefits
Members of SKS receive six issues per year of the magazine Hiidenkivi, which is published in association with the Finnish Language Research Centre and Suomen Kotiseutuliitto.
Members receive a 25% discount on SKS publications when they purchase them from the Society's own bookshop (Mariankatu 7, Helsinki, open MonThurs 1117, Fri 1116) or from the Tiedekirja bookshop (Kirkkokatu 14, Helsinki, open Mon 1117, TuesThurs 1016.30).
