FILI & translators

Highly skilled translators are the lifeblood of a successful literary export programme. This is a particular challenge for a “small” language territory like Finland.

FILI serves as a “home base” for translators of Finnish literature. We support translators in a variety of ways, and we aim to increase translators’ visibility. We organise courses and seminars, and we offer translators’ residencies, travel grants and sample translation grants. Each year, FILI also nominates a translator to receive the Finnish State Award for Foreign Translators, given by the Ministry for Education and Culture.
