Printing Grant Application Instructions
Finland-Swedish Literature and Non-Fiction
Applicants may apply for printing grants to cover the costs of printing Finland-Swedish manuscripts. The work in question must be published in Finland.
The manuscript must be complete at the time of applying, though applicants need not attach it to the application. In special cases the advisory board may ask to see a copy of the manuscript.
Grants are awarded to cover the printing costs of prose, poetry, literature for children and young people, plays, comics, anthologies and journals. In the case of non-fiction, the application must define the subject of the work in question.
Grants are not awarded:
The Delegation for the Advancement of Swedish Literature (Delegationen för den svenska litteraturens främjande) decides on all funding allocation. Applicants will be notified of grant decisions in writing within two months after the end of the application period.
Grant awards remain valid for 24 months. The board must be informed immediately of any delays to the timetable.
In applying for translation and printing grants, applicants must fill out two separate application forms.
Grant applicants
Publishers, societies and organisations which publish literature in Swedish in Finland may apply for grants to cover printing costs. Print-on-demand projects may also apply for a printing grant on the stipulation that the application contains the reports of two independent experts.
Application period
The annual deadlines for grant applications are 1st April and 1st November each year. Applications must arrive at FILI by the final application deadline. Late and incomplete applications will not be considered.
Required enclosures
The application must be accompanied by an overview of the work in question and a short explanation of why the work is to be translated. First-time applicants are also asked to submit general information on the publishing house.
All attachments must arrive at FILI by the deadline.
Grant terms
Printing grants will be paid when the publisher has delivered eight copies of the finished publication to FILI and / or the Delegation. Before grants can be paid, the recipient must also sign and return the contract sent out by FILI; this is required by Finnish laws concerning state subsidies.
The translated work must include mention of the grant awarded by FILI and the Delegation:
