Hanna Karhu has specialized in the study of literary manuscripts. Her expertise lies in the field of genetic criticism. Karhu´s doctoral dissertation (2012) dealt with the origins of the Finnish poet Otto Manninen’s (1872−1950) two first collections of poetry, Verses (Säkeitä, 1905) and Verses. Second series (Säkeitä. Toinen sarja, 1910): https://helda.helsinki.fi/handle/10138/37099. Presently she is working on the intertextual connections of Manninen’s poetry and Finnish folksongs (Finnish rhymed couplet’s) in the genetic context.
Karhu has also worked as a researcher at the Edith – Critical Editions of Finnish Literature (SKS) and taught the course “Archives and literary scholarship” at the University of Helsinki 2006−2017.
