Books, Libraries and Open Access
The seminar will explore the latest developments on open access monograph publishing and funding in the Finnish context. In the seminar we will be approaching these important subjects from all stakeholders’ viewpoints.
Open access monograph publishing is still a fairly new development in Finland and only a few publishers are offering it as an option to their authors. During the last year there have, however, been some interesting developments. In the seminar the Finnish Literature Society will launch its open access monograph publishing platform in co-operation with Ubiquity Press. New funding models developed with the Helsinki University Library will also be presented and discussed (Aleksandria library consortium).
Seminaarin tavoitteena on esitellä avoimen verkkojulkaisemisen mahdollisuuksia tiedekirjankustantamisessa. Helsingin yliopiston kirjasto ja SKS ovat yhdessä selvittäneet avoimen tiedekirjan rahoitusmalleja ja perustaneet Kirjastokonsortio Aleksandrian. Seminaari tarjoaa puitteet keskustelulle tiedekirjojen avoimen verkkojulkaisemiseen mahdollisuuksista kaikille tieteen sidosryhmille.
Tiedekirjojen avoin verkkojulkaiseminen on melko uusi ilmiö Suomessa, vain harvat kustantamot tarjoavat sitä kirjoittajilleen. Vuonna 2015 Suomalaisen Kirjallisuuden Seura päätti pilotoida avointa verkkojulkaisemista, ja SKS julkistaa seminaarissa oman avointen tiedekirjojen alustansa.
