SKS offers diverse resources and services for members
SKS is a scientific society that unifies the different areas of Finnish culture and is a cultural organisation that promotes knowledge of Finland’s cultural heritage. As a member of SKS, you are part of a unique network that provides expertise and conducts activities in the field of humanities.

Members
SKS has about 2,100 members, most of which are staff members in universities and research institutes, researchers and students. Members also include many writers, translators, students as well as actors in cultural and national associations.
Members are charged a membership fee of EUR 35. For students, postgraduate students and unemployed and retired persons, the membership fee is EUR 20.
Apply for SKS membership by sending an email to SKS Secretary General Kati Mikkola (kati.mikkola@finlit.fi). In your message, please include your address, the reason for your interest in membership, and a possible reference. Your application will be reviewed by the SKS Board.
Note: Students also have the option to apply for a student membership, which is free of charge. Read more about the student membership below.
Student Members
SKS also offers student membership. The student membership is intended for individuals interested in the activities of the society who are pursuing a basic degree at a Finnish university or higher education institution in a field related to SKS’s purpose and mission. SKS’s key research areas include the study of cultures, traditions, the Finnish language, literature, and history.
As a student member of SKS, you can participate in our activities free of charge for the first five years. Student members have the same rights as regular members, except they do not have voting rights in the society’s meetings and receive member communications only in digital format.

Note: As a student, you may also apply for regular membership in SKS, in which case the membership fee is EUR 20.
Correspondent members
SKS has over 200 correspondent members. On the proposal of the Board, the Delegation of SKS invites international influencers and recognised researchers of Finnish culture, cultural heritage and the Finnish language to become correspondent members.
Honorary members
SKS also has honorary members. Honorary members are invited by an annual meeting at the proposal of the Delegation.
