SKS is the mother of scientific societies for the field of humanities
The Finnish Literature Society was founded in 1831 and is the second-oldest scientific society in Finland. The only society that is older is the Societas pro Fauna et Flora Fennica, which is a scientific society dedicated to research the fauna and flora of Finland. Under SKS, many of Finland’s scientific societies and organisations working in the field of humanities have been founded. Today, SKS is a research institute known for its pioneering multidisciplinary research.
The key fields of SKS are folklore, literature and the Finnish language. About 20 researchers from key and related fields work annually in the SKS Research Department.
